MPLS Network Saves Service Providers over $1M Annually
New Technical White Paper by Network Insight Highlights the Business Benefits of Implementing MPLS
San Diego, February 7, 2006 -Network Insight, a premier provider of network infrastructure design, implementation and management services, has recently published a technical white paper outlining the business benefits of implementing MPLS (Multiprotocol Label Switching) technology. MPLS is a widely supported method of speeding voice and data communication over combined Internet Protocol (IP)/Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) networks, thereby improving the speed of packet or data processing and enhancing performance and reliability of the network. For businesses, this means a direct savings on network operating costs, increased network performance, Quality of Service (QoS) and network resiliency.
MPLS has become a popular technology in recent years with many innovative enterprises flocking to upgrade their network. Companies that are also looking to gain greater control and flexibility over networks and want a technology to converge several legacy and next-generation services on a common infrastructure, are finding MPLS to be a great option. Nemertes Research recently benchmarked best practices at 75 major enterprises, and found that 57% are deploying or planning to deploy MPLS-based services.
Network Insight’s clients know firsthand the benefits of implementing MPLS. The company recently re-architected the network of a leading national wireless carrier, representing over 1.5 million customers, to leverage the full potential of MPLS. Before implementing MPLS, the carrier was using an antiquated ATM -based network but was suffering from low data transfer rates. The carrier needed a backbone that could handle VoIP technology and continue to grow and expand in sync with their business. The upgraded network resulted in a cost savings of $100-150K a month.
Another example is a wholesale provider of network and VoIP solutions. Before implementing MPLS the wholesaler had no network and desperately needed a backbone to accommodate the growth of the company. Within a year of implementing an MPLS backbone the company grew from 20 customers to 400 and today continues to grow with a network that can support them.
“The business benefits of implementing MPLS can be tremendous for companies,” according to Chris Pond, CEO of Network Insight. “Because MPLS provides a seamless framework incorporating the high speed performance of layer 2 switching and the intelligence of layer 3 routing a more reliable, efficient network is the result. In this example, MPLS was implemented on a network that already had corporate and customer infrastructure merged. When companies converge the two networks then implement MPLS, operational savings up to 50% are easily recognized. ”To learn more about MPLS technology and the benefits for businesses, please download Network Insight’s free technical white paper.
