Nationwide Cable Operator to Monitor and Control Traffic Using Network Insight’s Proven Solution

Network Insight to Design, Configure, Deploy and Provide Training on Service Control Engines for Traffic Management

San Diego, August 7, 2006 - A nationwide cable provider has chosen Network Insight to implement a traffic management solution for the provider’s network. Network Insight, the leading firm for professional and managed services related to Cisco SCEs, will use this expertise to implement Cisco Service Control Engines (SCEs) and perform a complex Oracle install project for the cable operator.

The contract calls for Network Insight to integrate the SCE’s collection manager with an Oracle database. Additionally, the provider has turned to Network Insight to create acceptable use policies (AUPs) for the network. These AUPs will govern usage by subscribers of the cable company and will be enforced by Network Insight’s configuration solution.

“The main criteria, for this cable operator, when choosing a partner for the project was a company with deep knowledge of the SCE and someone who could help with the Oracle integration,” said Matt Stoyka, Network Insight vice president of operations. “Network Insight meets those requirements. In fact, part of the contract calls for Network Insight to train the cable operator’s own engineers on the device.”

Subscribers ChartMonitoring a Service Provider’s Traffic
The SCE can sit in-line or to the side of a service provider’s network collecting data on the traffic traversing it. Network information can then be sliced in hundreds of ways. For instance, a service provider may want to know how many subscribers use P2P in order to create appropriate tiered service offerings. A report can then be created to provide the statistical information to answer this very question.

Managing Traffic with SCEs
This cable operator plans to take the SCEs’ capabilities one step further -- from monitoring to management. Network Insight helps service providers implement policies such as maximum bandwidth allocation by subscriber, then configures the SCE to enforce these policies.

Screenshot“By implementing service control, the cable operator will be able to optimize its current infrastructure, guarantee quality of service for specific applications and ensure corporate policies are being adhered to,” said Chris Pond, Network Insight CEO. “This is a solution with considerable ROI.”
