Abuse of the network, excessive amounts of P2P or infected traffic could all have serious repercussions for both subscribers and the organization itself.

Challenge: Replace Existing Service Control Technology With a New Scalable Service Control Solution

The wireless carrier had a service control product in place to monitor and manage corporate traffic. However, the existing technology was having trouble scaling at the same explosive growth rate as the carrier, which had been adding several new offices each month for numerous consecutive months. Before long, traffic was failing to pass through the existing service control units and the carrier began experiencing repetitive and potentially costly outages on its network.

As a predominantly "Cisco shop," the carrier explained its situation to the networking giant and was introduced to Cisco’s Service Control Engine (SCE) that is designed exclusively for handling service control and shaping for highvolume traffic, such as that on service provider networks. “After learning about Cisco’s SCE, we bought 10 and immediately turned to Network Insight, our long-time network consulting and managed services firm, to design the replacement, test the solution and provide ongoing management of the Service Control Engines,” said the data network manager for the wireless carrier. “We need our IT resources for more strategic networking projects, so handling the task in-house was not even an option for us, especially when we have complete trust in Network Insight and use them as an extension of our own IT department.”
